About the Book:

Wiley library media specialist Mrs. Skorupski is back in her third book.  This time, she's mixing it up with a Dewey Decimal treasure hunt!

Fourth grade twins Hugh and Louis join forces to plan the treasure hunt with their classmates in Mr. Dickinson's class. When it's all prepared, Carmen Rosa Peña's little sister Frieda and her second-grade classmates compete against other teams to see who can find the most Dewey objects and corresponding books in the time allotted. As readers root for Frieda to win the hunt, they will be treated to an exciting tour of the Dewey numbers and sections along the way.

For those who admire Mrs. Skorupski's style and wardrobe, she doesn't disappoint; this time she's decked out in rhinestone Dewey numbers from her earrings to her shoes and dons a royal purple Dewey decimal system cape!

From the Book

Meet Mrs. Skorupski, the librarian who loves Dewey!

On Monday, Mrs. Skorupski swooped over to greet my class at the library door.

"Hello Hugh Abernathy," she said. "So, you're line leader today?"

She pointed me toward the 'Knowledge Nest.' The light glinted off her rhinestone earrings.  The left one spelled out 000.  The right spelled 900.

My twin brother Louis nudged me. "Check out her shoes."

More rhinestone numbers! They were also pinned to her collar, holding her sweater closed, and decorating a ring on each hand.  Ten numbers in all.

The Story Behind the Story

Read more about how I came to write the first book in the Mrs. Skorupski series, Our Librarian Won't Tell Us ANYTHING!, and how my friendship with the REAL Diane Skorupski made it all possible in this article from the January 2007 issue of Library Sparks magazine.
