I love to speak—to students, to families, to educators. I travel the country—and the world—speaking in schools as a visiting author and family literacy speaker. I also keynote and offer workshops at conferences of teachers, librarians, and children’s writers. And now that the world has become so much more remotely connected, I do even more virtual visits than ever before.
I never knew that I loved to speak until I was required to take a speech course as a college freshman. At first, I could barely stand still in front of my classmates without shaking. But after a month I was not only comfortable but eager to speak, as though my “inner speaker” had finally been unleashed. Audiences of all types and ages now praise my gifts as a public speaker!
